Picture This

An old picture theatre looms over the coast.

A faded monument to its own splendour. Born in the silent era, it once blazed with red velvet curtains, a sunken orchestra, and the promise of spectacle.

From the street it looks unassuming. Step inside, and you’ve entered a time capsule that never agreed to stay shut. Rooms speak. Floors remember. And you, the observer, are drawn into a history that feels alive.

This summer on the Mornington Peninsula, Picture This! invites you to follow the ‘reel’ stories of decades past; from wartime dances to swinging sixties, discovering what a theatre can mean to a community perched at the coastal fringe. Not nostalgia. Revelation.

A Living, Breathing Theatre

Created by Forget Me Not Theatre and artistic director Luce Wirthensohn, this immersive experience transforms the 90-year-old Broadway Theatre in Rosebud into stage, storyteller, and time machine.

You’ll move through the building, encountering performance, projection, sound, and movement that blend history, memory, and imagination into something wholly alive.

“A love letter to place, people, and possibility; breathing new life into a historic theatre, offering young artists a platform, and exploring where live performance and cinema can collide.”

How We Made It

Research fuels the show. We’ve explored archives, interviewed locals, gathered oral histories, and uncovered photographs. These fragments are turned into movement, improvisation, and projection, creating a world where past and present blur.

Immersive theatre doesn’t just ask you to watch, it pulls you in. It’s bold, electric, and boundary-pushing. Flash mobs, audience participation, cinematic storytelling: every element brings the theatre alive.

It’s theatre for people who never thought it was for them. And it’s waiting for you.
